A flange is a cast ring or forged of steel designed to connect mechanically two sections of steel pipe or join pipe to a pressure pump, vessel, valve or any other piece of equipment. Same standard flanges can either be flat face or raised face.

Most used types of flanges by various industries are
- Weld Neck Flanges: WN flanges are distinguished by their protruding necks. The weld neck flange has the same bevel and thickness of the pipe. This flange is considered for severe service conditions such as high pressure and high temperatures or sub-zero.
- Slip-On Flanges: SO Flange are the most affordable Type of flanges available for purchase. The slip-on flange have a slightly bigger diameter than the pipe, which helps it easier to slip them over the pipe. These SS SO flanges are fillet welded to a position and are ideal for low-pressure applications.
- Blind Flanges: BL flanges are designed without a bore and are used to seal piping systems or vessel openings. These flanges are ideal for Vessels or piping systems that require regular inspection. SS Blind flange can easily handle high stress caused due to internal pressure.
- Threaded Flanges: SS Threaded flanges are used for special applications and can be easily assembled without welding. SS threaded flanges are compatible with pipes with external threads. For the applications where bending stresses, high pressure or high temperatures are involved, threaded flanges are not recommended.
- Lap Joint Flanges: LJ / Loose Flanges are the type of slip-on flanges that are used with stub end fittings. Lap-Joint flanges are ideal for piping systems that require regular inspection and maintenance such as low carbon steel pipes or alloy steel pipes.
- Socket Weld Flanges: SW flanges are designed for use on small diameter and high-pressure piping. The SS socket weld flange has internal welds which contribute to their durability as well as fatigue strengths. Socket weld flanges are used in the chemical processing industry.
- Orifice Flanges: The function of orifice steel flange is to provide access to a line for metering liquids or gases. The orifice flanges are installed with orifice plates or flow nozzles.
- Ring–Type Joint Flanges: RTJ flanges are used for high pressure and temperature applications. The SS RTJ flanges feature a groove that can be easily compressed on slip-on, blind, or weld neck flange. Where media is transferred at high pressure and high-temperature RTJ flange helps to avoid leaks in pipelines.
